Plasti-dip is a new thermoplastic coating with, it seems, any number of uses on and around boats. Producing a tough, rubbery finish, it's claimed to stick to metal, wood, plastic, rubber, concrete and even rope - so you can use it to give slippery tool handles a comfortable grip,
seal rope ends, insulate battery terminals, or protect the underside of cars from stone chips. With ropes and tools, you just dip them into the pot - but Plasti-dip can also be applied by spray or brush. The distributors tell us that it stops rust and corrosion, resists alkalines, battery acid, salt and water, and remains flexible from -1 to 90°C. Colour choices are black, red, blue and yellow if you choose the 429ml tins, or white, green, black and red with the spray cans. Either way, the price is £8.50. Plasti-dip is distributed by Frost Auto Restoration Techniques, whose catalogue also includes a wide range of tools and equipment for restoring and repairing engines, gearboxes, fuel tanks, electrical systems, bodywork and interior trim. |
