With the increasing complexity and inter-dependency of electrical installations, say Marine Energy Systems, comes a need for specialist knowledge about how the various elements interact. That's why they've joined forces with two other companies to offer an electrical survey service to boat owners. The process starts with a questionnaire asking for details of your engine and domestic batteries, alternator, battery charger, solar, wind or engine generator, inverter, circuit layout and battery management system.
Armed with all the information, they'll arrange to visit with a local marine electrician - ideally, looking at several boats in each location to bring the survey price down from a maximum of £1 75 to as low as £50 depending on numbers. In any event, they'll let you know the cost in advance.
Recommendations in the report Will include fitting new or replacement equipment where applicable - but the cost of the survey will be deducted should you follow their suggestions and have the work carried out through their associated contractors.
Along with MES - who make a battery management system - the companies involved are Ampair (wind generators and solar panels) and Omnicharge, distributors of the Swedishmade LEAB battery chargers.
