Spraying cool
Sailors in this country seldom expose themselves to the risk of over-heating, but in case of a heat-wave this summer, you might find a can of Magicool a useful addition to the first aid box. Available in 150 and 200ml pressurised cans, it's a patented spray designed to cool you down even if you've left it in a hot car for hours. The secret ingredient, apparently, is a non toxic coolant, along with the propellant and demineralised water. When you activate the spray, the coolant turns to gas and absorbs the heat, leaving a fme mist of cool water to land on the skin. It can also be used to cool the air and seats inside a baking car.
In a June which has so far made a passable attempt at imitating February, we've not been able to give it a particularly harsh test, but we've found that it produces a pleasantly cooling effect even when the can has been warm to the touch. And, as they claim, a few sprays inside an oven-like car (we found cme hot day) really does make it fit for human habitation.
