At the moment, Abemama has a rugged, trouble-free Mobitronic switch-mode charger. I fitted the 25 amp version - which is fme when we're on shore power, but too big for those few occasions when we have to use our 500W generator. It might be wise to replace it and install the Invac Twin Battery Charger which gives 1O/15A either automatic, or user-switchable. . There are other Invac amperages available in what's really two chargers in a single box. If one goes down - as happened to us two years ago you still have the other. The Invacs are switch-mode, so can be left on permanently. Reverse polarity protection means that they needn't be uncoupled during engine starting. An alternative might be to keep the Mobi and add the neat little Invac 5A or SA as a back up for the gennie, or leaving it in line for winter charge maintenance and protection.I'm not sure whether this example of French engineering will be robust enough, but a long trialwill prove one way or the another |
