Celluar Antennas For the best reception when using a mobile phone on your boat, say Shakespeare, you should connect it to a special cellular antenna. The problem, apparently, is that the frequen-cies used by cellular phones (typically 900 and 1,800 MHz) are close to those used by some domestic appliances, which is why they’re prone to interfer-ence. Antennas are available for mounting on the cabin top or masthead, with prices starting at around $150 You’ll also need an adaptor cable with a TNC con-nector one end to fit the antenna, and a suitable fitting for your particular phone on the other. The cables come in 5ft (1.5m) lengths with connections for most popular types of phone, but prices have yet to be fixed at the time of writing. |
